APA Title Page Setup (6th and 7th Editions)

Depending on which school you are creating a paper for will determine whether you are using the 6th or 7th edition of the APA manual for documentation.

Below, you can find the 6th and 7th edition versions of a title page created by a Liberty University student.

Title Page Setup

The American Psychological Association website at https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/paper-format/title-page states the necessary information for title pages:
A title page is required for all APA Style papers. There are both student and professional versions of the title page. Students should use the student version of the title page unless their instructor or institution has requested they use the professional version. APA provides a student title page guide (PDF, 199KB) to assist students in creating their title pages.

For Liberty University students, you must include your degree sought and your documentation style for the degree to be posted on the Title page of your assignment.

Be sure to include these two lines on your student title page at the very bottom:
Degree/Diploma: ____________
Documentation Format:  ____________

Student Title Page

While the APA site also has a sample student title page, if you are a student at Liberty University, you must remember to add these two lines on your student title page: Degree/Diploma and Documentation Format.  See the content below from the APA website on student title pages ().
The student title page includes the paper title, author names (the byline), author affiliation, course number and name for which the paper is being submitted, instructor name, assignment due date, and page number, as shown in the following example.

Title page setup is covered in Section 2.3 of the APA Publication Manual, Seventh Edition.  This guidance has been revised from the 6th edition.

APA Title Page (7th edition)

APA 7th Edition formatted student papers do not include a running head unless requested by the instructor or institution.

Follow the guidelines described below to format each element of the student title page.

Author names
Place one double-spaced blank line between the paper title and the author names. Center author names on their own line. If there are two authors, use the word “and” between authors; if there are three or more authors, place a comma between author names and use the word “and” before the final author name.
Cecily J. Sinclair and Adam Gonzaga
Author affiliation
For a student paper, the affiliation is the institution where the student attends school. Include both the name of any department and the name of the college, university, or other institution, separated by a comma. Center the affiliation on the next double-spaced line after the author name(s).
Department of Psychology, University of Georgia

Degree/Diploma
LIBERTY STUDENTS
Be sure to add a line for the degree or diploma you are working toward while in the class.  Include this line at the bottom section of your title page.
(If you are a Dual Enrolled student, you would write DE HS Diploma in this section unless you have specifically declared a degree at Liberty. However, if you are a DE student, you will be using MLA documentation style since high school English courses use MLA as their standard documentation style.)
Degree/Diploma: Psychology
Documentation Style
LIBERTY STUDENTS
Be sure to add a line noting the documentation style you are using in the writing.  Include this line at the bottom section of your title page.
(If you are a Dual Enrolled student, you would not be using APA unless you have specifically declared a degree at Liberty that uses APA formatting because MLA documentation style is the standard documentation style for high school English courses.)
